Mr. Ng Seng Yi

Seng Yi holds a LL.M (Commercial and Corporate Law) with distinction from Queen Mary University of London and an Upper Second-Class LL.B degree with honours from University of Malaya. He was the recipient of the prestigious Sultan Azlan Shah Foundation Scholarship and Kuok Foundation Study Award. He was also selected to take part in the pioneering batch of the three-year Axiata Young CEO Development Programme in 2016-2018.

Seng Yi was called to the Malaysian Bar in July 2019. His legal practice spans a broad range of complex and/or high value civil and commercial disputes in dispute resolution. He has experience assisting senior counsel at all levels of the Malaysian courts. He has a keen interest in commercial, contract and corporate law in both contentious and advisory matters.

Seng Yi acted as a research assistant to Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Visu Sinnadurai in Sinnadurai, Law of Contract (5th ed, 2023), the leading textbook on the contract law in Malaysia. He was a tutor in law at University of Malaysia, teaching the course of Remedies. He has published several articles on commercial law. This includes, ‘Legal Effect of No Oral Modification Clause in Malaysia: A Quest for Freedom of Contract’ (2022) 49 JMCL 25 and ‘Cubic Electronics: A Fresh Look or a Daze on Section 75 of the Contracts Act 1950’ (2021) 3 MLJ lxxxviii. He was part of the Editorial Team in The Sultan Azlan Shah Law Lectures III – Politics and the Judiciary, Executive Power & The Limits of Law (2021). He is currently the Executive Committee of the National Human Rights Society (HAKAM).
